Methodology
How Havenivo calculates planning estimates
The calculator uses the dimensions, package coverage, purchase increments, prices, and allowances you enter. Intermediate calculations retain full decimal precision.
Area formulas
- Rectangle: length × width.
- Circle: π × radius².
- Triangle: base × height ÷ 2.
- Direct area: the entered square-foot or square-meter value.
Multiple included areas are converted to a common unit and added together.
Depth and volume
Inches are divided by 12 to convert depth to feet. Centimeters are divided by 100 to convert depth to meters. Area multiplied by depth produces volume. One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet; cubic-meter conversions use the exact conversion constants defined in the calculation engine.
Waste allowance
Final volume equals calculated volume × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100). Mulch waste defaults to 0% as a product default, not an industry standard, and can be changed.
Packages and bulk increments
Exact package count equals required volume divided by package coverage. Whole bags use a ceiling operation. Bulk quantities are also rounded up to the purchase increment entered by the user. These operations can create leftover coverage.
Cost comparison
Material subtotal uses the rounded purchase quantity. Delivery or pickup fees are then added. A recommendation is shown only when both bagged and bulk scenarios contain enough entered values for comparison, and it uses unrounded internal costs.
Assumptions and limitations
Results are planning estimates. Measurements, settled material volume, bag coverage, supplier increments, availability, taxes, site access, and fees may differ. Confirm final quantities and prices with your supplier or contractor.
