Bags vs bulk mulch
Bagged and bulk offers use different purchase units. Enter the coverage printed on a bag and the bulk increment quoted by a supplier. Whole bags and bulk increments are rounded up independently, so either option may include leftover material.
Choosing mulch depth
The planner starts at 3 inches and provides 2-, 3-, and 4-inch shortcuts. Three inches is a common starting point in this product, not a universal standard. Use the editable value that fits your project and confirm uncertain requirements before purchasing.
Delivery and pickup costs
Compare complete scenarios. Add bagged mulch delivery or pickup fees and bulk delivery fees when they apply. Taxes and fees not entered are not included in the estimate.
Worked example
A 10 ft × 20 ft rectangle covers 200 sq ft. At 3 inches deep with 0% waste, it needs 50 cu ft, or about 1.85 cu yd. With 2 cu ft bags, the purchase quantity is 25 bags.
For an example cost comparison only: 25 bags at $4.50 equal $112.50. A bulk order rounded to a 0.5 cu yd increment becomes 2 cu yd; at $40 per cu yd plus a $25 delivery fee, its estimated total is $105. These are sample inputs, not market prices.
